The city counts less trees than humans. Maybe that is the reason why inhabitants cultivate such strong relationships with the trees that are there. During this walk storyteller and nature guide An Mertens invites you to meet some remarkable trees in the neighbourhood Bosnia in St-Gilles.

You will learn who they are, what rights and duties they have, and also, what stories they've witnessed. Some of these stories have arrived thanks to whispering neighbours, some date back from a past city that only the trees can remember, and some will inspire us to project on a future city we might not get to know anymore, but some of the trees will definitely do.

Exhibition Parlez-Vous Saint-Gillois?

The exhibition Spreekt U Sint-Gillis? / Parlez-vous Saint-Gillois? presents the project with the same name that Constant organised between 2013 and 2015 in the framework of the neighbourhood contract Bosnie, around the Rue de Bosnie in low Saint-Gilles.
The exhibition presents extra-ordinary words that are spoken in the neighbourhood: neologisms, acronyms, hybrid words that bypass proper notions of Dutch or French.
Those words were recorded during the activities of the project. They were collected in the online database spreektu1060.be.
You can listen to the radioshows and the work of the following artists produced for the project: Wendy Van Wijnsberghe, Lucie Castel, Anna Raimondo, Vincent Matyn-Wallecan, An Mertens and Rafaella Houlstan-Hasaerts.
During the exhobition there are guided tours, audio walks and visits in the neighbourhood. The walk Play Babel guides participants along inhabitants that tell the story of beautiful linguistic accidents that happened during their first meetings with the French language. During the final weekend you can visit special trees in the neighbourhood with novelist and nature guide An Mertens.

Play Babel is a soundwalk by artist Anna Raimondo, through the neighborhood Bosnie in Saint-Gilles, Brussels. The walk was created in the framework of the Constant project "Parlez-vous Saint-Gillois ?" and three guided walks will be organised for Saint-Gilles Ville de Mots

The soundwalk Play Babel investigates the languages that are spoken by inhabitants of Bosnie. During the walk you will taste a soup of accents and a salad of borrowed words, sprinkled with absurdities and untranslatable words. During the walk you will encounter words that voyaged from all corners of the world.

The walk focusses on spoken language. Dialects, prononciations, hybrid use of language and cultural luggage express the cultural diversity in this neighborhood.
