A workshop, followed by a talk and a conversation

How can mapping and spatial analysis be used to record and respond to urban conflict?

In the context of the recent arrival of Frontex in Brussels-Midi station, we will consider how mapping can be used to record and resist the militarization of urban space and how it can be used to support collective practices. We will consider mapping as a form of artistic research, activist practice, and a method that creates spatial encounters. Mapping otherwise is a participatory process that uses visual spatial language to analyse the workings of power with those who are subject to it. It is a way of questioning the conventions of standard cartography that sees from one point only (above) and removes experience. In this workshop we will consider how to create maps that are situated and that convey an everyday and lived knowledge of space from the point of view of those who are marginalised. The workshop will take these premises as its starting point: what to map, why and with whom.

After a break, there will be a talk on Topological Atlas, a poetic research project by Nishat Awan* that visualises migration through digital, sensory and human perspectives, followed by a discussion. You can come to the talk without having followed the workshop, and vice versa.

Nishat Awan's research focuses on the intersection of geopolitics and space, particularly on issues related to diasporas, migration and border regimes. She explores modes of representation in space, especially in the digital context, and the limits of testimony as a form of ethical engagement with distant places.

About the installation
Violence and resistance exist side by side. For violence to reproduce and go undetected, it must be justified and normalized, and for resistance to bloom, it must be groomed out of sight. Yet, making something invisible and becoming invisible tells two completely different stories.

Quantics Antics of the Borderless Underground (QABU) is a fictional exploration of resistance from humans and more-than-humans to the (in)visible forms of violence that we call 'borders'. Borders are everywhere, grow in all directions, and so does resistance, spreading through city networks beneath our feet, hidden in plain sight, and materialzing in the most unexpected creatures and places.

Through drawings and field recordings, this installation in Constant's window depicts possible elsewheres and elsewhens to denounce the colonial legacy of border narratives and instigate the social imagination against technofascism. Underground routes, mutant moles, and journeys across queer spacetime situate QABU and its authors within the deadly fiction of borders, made of surveillance, incarcerations, and displacements of discriminated-against bodies. Far from being an escape from structural inequality and systemic oppression, QABU's imaginary is a call for using existing tools to break the continuum of violence collectively.

About the workshop
Before the opening, we will organize a workshop to craft a shared urban language with special powers. We will create stencils that overlap with soundscapes and turn walls into dimensional portals between cities. What kind of places would you choose or imagine in a city to be part of QABU interdimensional resistance?

We would like to invite you for a session to take a look at the Trickster as the embodiment of the smuggler figure. An occulture process. Together we will work on invisibility, disappearing in the ultra technological system, and how to stop fearing boundaries.

In the Mexican coyote cartography, the fire was kept by a circle of unreachable flies, the world outside of the circle was left in the darkness. The coyote ran inside and put its tail on fire and then she burned the forest around; by this act the fire was set free and became accessible for everyone again.
By this holistic figure, we will explore counter knowledge. We will play together with the camouflage of our inner self, and looking for strategy to confront the surveillance technologies. This technopaganism workshop, will involve our body as a weapon, shapeshifting, discomfort, grey zone. Developing a language without words, as they listen to our whispers, we play with how the information we transmit can only become visible between the ones we trust.

I'm Barb from "barbare" the one that don't speak the langage. Or Tipoe, Brad Pity, Maislusine, Barbaricade … other algorithms that i use inside the system to adapt . I'm a gatherer, a hopecore, a trans being, a spiritual anarchist. Living in the neuro_divergent pleasure world , with ptsd forces , that often drag me into the void. From this void I'm making swamps relying on radical resistance.

This session is part of a research trajectory initiated in collaboration with Constant's "cobwebs". This research is supported through the framework of one of Constant's artistic commission of 2026.

Artistic Commission #2: Invasive Species Study Group

For the second artistic commission in 2025 Constant invited The Invasive Species Study Group, a relatively new international collective comprising Monika Gabriela Dorniak, Hwa Young Jung and Yi Zhang, who met during the worksession Otherworldly Communications organised in June by Constant. The commission began at the end of 2025 and will conclude with a public presentation in mid-2026. For the commission, this collective gathers and activates various practices that range from community work to performance, writing and game design, in collaboration with the Brussels art space Au Jus.

Seonmin's Weft on Care, Pigeons, and the unseen

In the context of the yearly theme Otherworldly communications we have invited Antwerp-based visual artist Seonmin Park, whose practice engages with socio-political themes and the lives of marginalized beings, to share her experiences in a weft*.

In recent years, her focus has turned toward urban pigeons, animals often dismissed as pests, but deeply entangled in the life of the city. After a pivotal experience in 2024, when she rescued and cared for an injured pigeon harmed by plastic waste, It shaped her perspective and through this intimate act of care, questions of visibility, responsibility, and coexistence came into sharper focus.

In this weft, Seonmin reflects on transforming the unseen into presence and invites us to reconsider how we value the lives that exist alongside us.

The weft will be published on Constant's website in 2026.

Artistic commission #1: Hormonobotanik.wiki

In 2025, Contant supported the work of Flo*Souad Benaddi, Leo Ren O'faigain and Doriane Timmermans within Hormonobotanik.

Hormonobotanik is a project focusing on medicinal plants, their phytohormonal properties and their uses in transition processes. This long-term artistic research, initially begun out of necessity, has taken the form of visual installations as well as textile objects and publications, which have circulated in queer circles.

It started with Leo Ren and Flo*Souad cooking for and with people who like to mess around with their hormones and gender. The recipes came from their self-taught research on phytohormones and their Moroccan and Japanese cultural influences. In order to share these recipes, they organised participatory workshops and public events.
Together, they compiled a corpus which stimulated the desire to create a wiki; to document and preserve what was happening and what they wanted to happen. Doriane Timmermans joined the project in 2023 as a friend and collaborator to discuss the first temporary web platform and then to work on the creation of the wiki, supported by Constant.

This wiki is part archive, part working tool, but also a recipe book. It is a space that allows them to name and bring to life their work and that of others, in a simple and viable way.

Zine/publication launch: Otherworldly Communications

Constant is very happy to invite you to the launch of its third publication under the SPLINT research trajectory: Otherworldly Communications!

In 2025 Constant's research focused on how different forms of life co/exist and circulate in the midst of damage and toxicity and how we could critically engage with different conceptions of the 'other' (as in: other than human, otherworldly and otherings). This publication tells a subjective and multi-voiced story about discoveries and encounters that happened during the unfolding of our activities.

It was compiled during a three day sprint by Constant's team, guided by graphic designer Sarah Magnan*, and printed at chez rosi* in Brussels using the software Octomode by Creative Crowds.

It will soon be available in print format as well as in web format/pdf on Constant Calibre library.

During the event, we'll have live contributions by some of the artists that accompanied us in this trajectory, such as Joke Caimo, Blise Orr, Varia*.

You are very welcome to join us for this festive launch. Snacks and drinks will be provided in this early evening hour.

Cauldron for conspiracy gathering

For the first session of the cyberwitching gatherings series, we invite you to come together in a collective moment of sharing and speculation around experimental tactics rooted in magickal practices and hacking legacies.

If witches are seen as energy benders, can we read programmers, guided by code, functions and the currents flowing through circuits as spell casters or magick potions? Can we create counter spells to infiltrate Ethernet cables, corporate server farms and shield ourselves from surveillance systems like biometric tracking, predictive policing algorithms, etc.? How do we lift the veil to get out of the spell that entraps us in cyber and techno dependencies to reclaim alternative technologies against technofascism?

We are organising a moment to meet on the 23rd of march 2026 at Constant studio, Chaussée de Jette 388 for a first get together. Bring your homemade spells, hacking stories and technodisobedient tactics to see how we can form a shared practice of cyberwitching.

This session is part of a research trajectory initiated in collaboration with constant's cobwebs. This research is supported through the framework of one of Constant's commission of 2026.

Constant Zine 2025 in progress

During its 2023-2027 artistic programme, Constant publishes an annual Zine showing a subjective overview of what happened during the year. The focus of 2025 was on Otherworldly communications, a research around interspecies cohabitation and communication. In this small, subjective publication we try to recount our experiences, reflections, discoveries and perplexities.

The publication will be made collectively using octomode, a system that allows to have a publication balancing collective workflows and experimental additions; the writing of the publication is done on several computers connected to the same etherpad, and then styled through templates and stylesheets, and outputs such as html texts, images, audio recordings, drawings and much more. The making and finalising of the zine will be facilitated by graphic designer Sarah Magnan and it will be printed by at Chez Rosi in Brussels as well as be available as pdf on Constant Calibre online repository.

Keep an eye on our website for the announcement of the festive launch, which will take place in the first half of 2026!

Constant_V: Hormonobotanik.wiki finissage

Hormonobotanik is a project focusing on medicinal plants, their phytohormonal properties and their uses in transition processes, initiated by Flo*Souad Benaddi in 2019 then joined by Leo Ren O'faigain and Doriane Timmermans. This long-term artistic research, initially begun out of necessity, has taken the form of visual installations as well as textile objects and publications, which have circulated in queer circles.

Over the previous weeks, the project occupied the window of Constant by planting, watering, and cultivating the hormonobotanik wiki. The window was used as a physical interface to connect to the wiki evolution, but also as a place to make visible the process at work.

Join us for the finissage taking place on thursday 12 of February at 18h at our office rue du fort 5A in Brussels, where the artists will propose an activity to make our own cookie cutter, the tasting of a homemade drink, a visit to the expanded hormonobotanik wiki and finally hand out stickers of the project.
